For attitude change, I am using the support of anti-smoking atiitude change programs as evidence.
This ad was on TV about this time last year and was seen as certainly confronting.
While an actor plays the part of the patient, doctors say the graphic ad is an accurate depiction of what they consider to be a "serious problem", which affects about one thousand Australians a year.
And worse still - more than half of those diagnosed don't survive.

There are also articles by The Age and SMH in response to this ad 'quitting is hard, not quitting is harder' and interstingly, this ad was also rated the second most compained about ad in 2006 according to a press release earlier this year.
However, the Health Promotions Board (HPB) stands by the campaign. Which also included depictions on cigarette packages many smoking related diseases and conditions such as oral cancer, neck cancer, gangrene and a miscarriaged foetus. They have said to have adopted a two-pronged approach, to jolt smokers to think about quitting (such as the ad posted) followed by positive motivation and support to help smokers kick the habit (Ready to quit? Give it a try!)
The question seems to be- from current research on attitude change, is this campiagn effective?
Hi Fiona, Wow, that's pretty high on the fear-factor. You've done some good research here to dig down into reactions and effects.
It does seem a little staged. As a kid, I think I was more influenced by real people e.g., with emphysema on TV.
As an adult, I find the facts and figures more informative, relevant and telling than emotive, somewhat simplistic, high-fear appears: e.g., Health risks of smoking (Wikipedia)
Nice ad on anti-smoking. Smoking badly damages the health this should be none to the smoker who smokes. Smokers feel that they get pleasure from it but they do not know how badly it affects the health. If someone decides to quit smoking then there is lot of ways for it. Quitting smoking is not the easy task we need to put the lot of efforts in it. In the mission of quitting smoking we can take, the help of our family members, friends and relatives. Also by taking the help of your near and dear ones, you can quit smoking. generic viagra no prescription
I'm studying my second year of a psychology and law degree.
I'm interested in Social Psychology because I'd love to further undertand the amazing influences that others have on our own thoughts and actions. Oh, and attraction, that's always intriguing...
